About

The 2010-2011 Iowa Cycling Team is composed of riders who have rebuilt the club from a barely breathing organism just three years ago, into a full blown recognized and established squad. Growing a decorated list of achievements, Team Iowa Cycling has seen many long days in the saddle begin to payoff in the 2010 season. Led by esteemed title sponsor Chipotle Mexican Grill and supported by a consortium of companies from around the local and regional area.

FAQ's:
"Is this a racing only club?"
No it is not, we like to keep the fun-to-work ratio balanced... or slightly more on the fun side.

"
What does a membership consist of?"
Compared to other clubs, the $50 fee is applied towards covering some entry fees, supplying food, and funding our travels.

"What do you guys like to do for fun?"
In order to stay sane, time off the bike is very good. We'll cook some good food, go cross-country skiing, and find other fun adventures

The University of Iowa Cycling Club
(UICC) is open to all U of I students, staff, and faculty, as well as anyone else who wishes to join.* The main purpose of our club is to provide a medium for U of I students and others interested in cycling, whether on the recreational side or the racing side.

The club is open to, and consists of, all types of riders - from those looking to casually ride around town to those who are interested in collegiate racing. If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please feel free to stop by to any of our meetings or send us an email via our Contact Page.

Meeting Other Riders
- Due to demanding and conflicting schedules of our student members, the Club typically does not adhere to scheduled club rides (although if the participation demanded, scheduled rides would easily be set up.) Our club is more concerned with meeting the other club members and becoming friends. From there, it is much easier to find others who share similar riding needs and it is much more comfortable to set up rides. Several times a month, we have evening meetings followed immediately by a "Social Hour" which is a highly social time for club members to meet one another. To help set up rides, we have a club forum and a club emailing list for which club members post the details (when/where/how far/etc... ) of upcoming rides they are going to do or are looking to do. Each post is an open invitation for any club member to join in a ride. The club has also been an avenue for people to meet and set up a group to attend RAGBRAI.

Racing - The UICC is a member of the North Central Collegiate Cycling Conference (NCCCC), which is governed and sanctioned by USA Cycling. Our conference is made up of schools from Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota - schools such as UKansas, Kansas State, UNebraska, UMinnesota, North Dakota State and Iowa State. Races are hosted by teams in our conference and are divided into MTB races in the fall and road races in the spring. The NCCCC is a division of a national collegiate racing series the culminates at the end of each season with a national race consisting of qualifying schools from the entire country. As well as being highly competitive, racing is a great way to see other schools and areas in the Midwest as well as meet other students. Travel costs (vehicle and gas) are generally provided by the club through the use of University vehicles. All other costs (such as entry fees, lodging, food, etc...) are provided by the travelers themselves. Racing is restricted to full-time collegiate students, however amateur status is not required. If you are interested in racing, information will become available through emails and meeting. Details for each race are worked out as needed, but for the most part, the races are a lot of fun and quite an adventure.

Club History
- The Club's past is a bit of a mystery. There was a club in the past, and that's about all we know. In the 2002-2003 school year, the Club was reorganized and open to all U of I students interested in cycling. The following year, the Club also focused on promoting cycling, club interaction and activities, and U of I cycling apparel and racing. In 2003-2004, the Club finally did more things right then it did wrong, and was finally successful with a thriving membership and a flourishing U of I cycling apparel campaign. Hopefully the Club will continue to improve and last for a long time.

*Club membership is limited by University of Iowa regulations which require the Club to maintain an overall minimum of 51% membership made up of U of I students. Individual Club memberships subject to annual membership fee.
